A man that executed his best friend in order to save him from an angry mob is worthy of forgiveness. In the book
Of Mice and Men, Lenny accidentally killed a woman, so an angry mob started chasing him because they wanted to kill him. George, Lenny's best friend, shot and killed him. George should be forgiven because instead of letting Lenny die slowly and painfully, he let him die quickly and easily.
How do we know Lenny would have died "slowly and painfully"? Might the mob have hanged him? Might he have been tried by and jury and sentenced accordingly?
ReplyDeleteIs killing someone--even out of mercy to spare suffering--taking the law into our hands? What of our legal system?
I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I agree. The short dude that wanted Lenny dead, would never kill him quickly. He would have tortured him to death. George tole Lenny his favorite story, and when George got to Lenny's favorite part of the story, he shot him. In order for him to die painlessly, and when he was happiest.
ReplyDeleteI agree, if my friend was about to get killed slow and painfully i'd help him out and kill him fast so he wouldn't suffer.
